Day 1
This is an exciting and safe introduction to white-water rafting. You'll have an excellent view of Mendenhall Glacier - one and a half miles wide and one hundred fifty feet high! Near the shoreline suit up with rain gear, life jackets and rubber boots. Rafts carry eight to twelve people and are rowed by an experienced guide.
The more adventurous can grab a paddle and actively participate. As you glide past Mendenhall Glacier on this iceberg-studded lake, you will be treated to spectacular views of hanging glaciers, peaks towering 7000 feet above the river and glacial topography. As you float down the river you'll encounter several exciting Class II & III rapids with names like, "Iatola Hola", "Pin Ball Alley" and "Tourist Trap". Your guide will explain the natural phenomena at work in this scenic valley.
Once ashore you will enjoy an Alaskan-style snack featuring reindeer sausage, cheese, smoked salmon spread with crackers, plus apple cider and hot cocoa.
