Talkeetna Day Tour by Coach

Depart by coach and pass through the community of Wasilla and the Matanuska Valley on the way to Talkeetna. Hopefully you get a glimpse on Denali on the way. Your knowledgeable driver/guide will offer tour highlights along the way.

Arriving at the Talkeetna Alaska lodge you will have time to enjoy coffee at this amazing lodge. Next you will be picked up at lodge for your flightseeing tour of Denali. As your flight departs Talkeetna, you begin to see how the last ice age has shaped the land. Moments later, you enter a world of rugged high mountain peaks and wide glacier filled valleys. You take and fly within six miles of Denali’s summit.

Touch down for a glacier landing at the Sheldon Amphitheater on Ruth Glacier. Enjoy the stillness of the mountains broken only by the far off rumble of distant rock and ice slides. Step out on the glacier and put your footprints in the snow. As you stand among the granite peaks, you will understand the immense scale of the mountains surrounding you. Photograph the towering peaks that surround you. Listen to the still found in the mountains. Then lift off from the glacier for your return to base.

On return you will have time for lunch (on own) in this fun town.

Your next Talkeetna experience is thrilling ride on the local rivers. The jet boat adventure will begin aboard the fifty-one passenger "Talkeetna Queen" as it whisks you into the heart of the wilderness in comfort. It is glass-domed, environmentally controlled, and has an onboard restroom for your comfort.

You arrive at a safari sight, where you take a 1/4 mile leisurely nature walk where you will see a Dena'ina Indian Encampment. You will visit an authentic trapper’s cabin with its original furnishings and view how trappers lived in "Bush" Alaska at the turn of the century. Your experienced guide will display raw furs from the local area and demonstrate trapping methods. Naturalists will acquaint you with the wildflowers and plants that grow in abundance along the river system and you will learn about the edible plants that were used by the Native Indians for cooking and medicines.

As you travel the river you will have opportunities to view nesting bald eagles, beaver activity, and moose and you just might see black bear and grizzly bear roaming the shore.

Stand in the splendor of Denali and the Alaska Range from a spectacular vantage point on the Susitna River! The possibility of wildlife, and folklore, artifacts and a panoramic view of Denali in the Alaska Range combine to make this an unforgettable and unique Alaskan river adventure. You will be transferred back to your hotel at the end of your adventure.

Return to the Talkeetna Alaska lodge for your motorcoach return to Anchorage. As travel to Anchorage you will time to reflect on all the great sights you took in today.
