Overview & Highlights
Experience Alaska’s wildlife up close on a guided bear-watching adventure at Redoubt Bay Lodge, nestled in a remote 171,000-acre critical habitat area. This rustic, hand-hewn lodge offers a rare opportunity to view both black and brown bears in their natural environment. Located 70 miles southwest of Anchorage, near the dramatic entrance to Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, Redoubt Bay is home to one of Alaska’s most concentrated and viewable bear populations.
This easy day trip from Anchorage to the Redoubt Bay Critical Habitat Area is approximately 6.5 hours, with both morning and afternoon departure options. While you may encounter both brown and black bears during your trip, Redoubt Bay is particularly known for its resident brown bear population.
